第三所因門分三。一明教初興由。二明二宗起由分二。一明勝義皆空宗興由。二明唯識中觀興由分二。一明造論因。二歎論功。三明教所被分二。一大。二小。

The third, the gateway of underlying causes, is divided into three: 1. Clarifying the causes for the initial emergence of the teaching; 2. Clarifying the causes for the rise of the two systems, which is divided into two: i. Clarifying the causes for the rise of the system that ultimate truth is entirely empty; ii. Clarifying the causes for the rise of Vijñaptimātra and Madhyamaka, which is divided into two: (a) Clarifying the cause for composing the treatise; (b) Praising the merits of the treatise; 3. Clarifying those addressed by the teaching, which is divided into two: i. The Great [Vehicle]; ii. The Lesser [Vehicle].
