The thirty-eighth, the gate explaining esoteric teachings, has two questions and answers: first, based on the explanation of birth and so forth, divided into two: 1. question, divided into two: (1) proposition; (2) inquiry; 2. answer, divided into three: (1) general answer; (2) distinct explanation; (3) analogizing the rest; second, based on the teaching that not all factors are conditions according to reason, divided into two: 1. question; 2. answer, divided into two: (1) general answer; (2) distinct explanation, divided into two: a. explaining consciousness as condition for name-and-form; b. explaining name-and-form functioning as condition for consciousness.
