First is the explanation of the morality of essential nature, divided into nine: 1. a general question; 2. a brief answer; 3. a query; 4. listing the names, divided into four as in the treatise; 5. specific explanations of the essential nature, divided into four: (1) explaining the meaning of the essential nature of correctly receiving from another, divided into two: i. establishing the cause; ii. revealing the fruit; (2) explaining the meaning of the essential nature of wholesome, pure intention, divided into two: i. establishing the cause; ii. revealing the fruit; (3) and (4) combined, explaining the meaning of the essential nature of restoring purity after a transgression and having deep reverence, mindfulness, and no violation, divided into two: i. the statement; ii. the explanation, divided into three: a. explaining the arising of shame and remorse; b. explaining the protection of what was undertaken; c. explaining freedom from all misdeeds; 6. the order of the four dharmas, divided into two: (1) establishing the cause; (2) revealing the fruit; 7. explaining the essential virtues of the four dharmas, divided into two: (1) explaining the virtues of non-violation; (2) explaining the virtues of restoring purity; 8. explaining the benefits of the four dharmas, divided into four: (1) explaining the exquisite benefit, divided into two: i. the statement; ii. the explanation; (2) explaining the immeasurable benefit, divided into two: i. the statement; ii. the explanation; (3) explaining the benefit of benefiting all sentient beings, divided into two: i. the statement; ii. the explanation; (4) explaining the benefit of being able to obtain great fruit, divided into two: i. the statement; ii. the explanation; 9. a general conclusion.
