The first, distinguishing the distinct meanings of the twenty-two faculties based on nine dharmas including karman, has two parts: 1. extensive prose exposition; 2. summary in verse. The extensive exposition has nine divisions: 1. distinguishing the distinct meanings based on karman, having six parts: (1) explaining the karman of the six faculties including the eye, with two subparts: explaining the karman of the eye faculty (having two subparts: question, and answer with three divisions as in the treatise), and by analogy explaining the karman of the other faculties; (2) explaining the karman of the two faculties of masculinity and femininity, with two subparts: question, and answer; (3) explaining the karman of the life-faculty, with two subparts: question, and answer; (4) explaining the karman of the five faculties of suffering and so forth, with two subparts: question, and answer; (5) explaining the karman of the five faculties of faith and so forth, with two subparts: question, and answer; (6) explaining the karman of the three faculties of learning what is unknown and so forth, with two subparts: question, and answer.
