Under the seventeen divisions, the seventh [section], clarifying the distinctions among the bases of the faculties based on the meaning of pure faith being deeply rooted and so forth, is divided into three: 1. general question, divided into two: (1) establishing the cause, (2) revealing the result; 2. brief answer; 3. distinct explanations of the sūtra phrases, divided into three: (1) clarifying the meaning of faith being deeply rooted based on the resolute intentions (adhimukti) of the three wisdoms; (2) clarifying the meaning of faith being deeply rooted based on being unshakeable by others, divided into two: i. statement, ii. explanation; (3) clarifying the meanings of being deeply rooted and so forth based on the three kinds of resolute intention, divided into three: i. general statement, ii. distinct explanations, divided into three: a. clarifying the meaning of pure faith being deeply rooted based on the firmly determined resolute intention of worldly good, b. clarifying the meaning of the faculties arising based on the root of supramundane resolute intention, c. clarifying the meaning of establishment based on pure supramundane resolute intention; iii. clarifying the distinct meanings.
