The third [section] among the fourteen divisions, explaining the functions of the four nutriments, is divided into two: 1. general questioning; and 2. extensive answering, divided into four: (1) answering the function of solid food, divided into two: a. stating and b. explaining; (2) answering the function of contact nutriment, divided into two: a. establishing the cause and b. showing the effect; (3) answering the function of mental volition nutriment, divided into two: a. establishing the cause and b. showing the effect; and (4) answering the function of consciousness, divided into two: a. establishing the cause and b. showing the effect.
