釋論文者。然准諸論或具三分。歸敬述意。正陳論體。結說迴向。初後有無隨作者意。今此論者唯有正宗。於中大分以為三段。初一頌半略辨唯識。次有二十三頌半廣辨唯識。後有五頌顯修行位。其初略辨論生起云。若唯有識云何世間及諸聖教說有我法。頌曰。

Regarding the explanation of the text of the treatise: according to various treatises, there may be three parts: paying homage and stating the intent, directly presenting the substance of the treatise, and the concluding dedication of merit. The presence or absence of the first and last depends on the author's intention. Now, this treatise contains only the main body (pradhāna). In it, there is a major division into three sections: the first verse and a half briefly explains vijñapti-mātra; next, twenty-three and a half verses broadly explain vijñapti-mātra; and the final five verses display the stages of cultivation. Regarding its initial brief explanation, the arising of the treatise says: if there is only consciousness, why do worldly conventions and the sacred teachings say that there are ātman and dharmas?
