四軌唯後說持通前宣等者。此依因緣比量宗說。如佛弟子立聲無常。聲是前宣無常後說。但聞聲字未能生解。若聞無常方有解生。是故軌義不通前宣。若論持義通前及後。解與未解守自性故。

Regarding 'Fourth, the model-standard applies only to what is stated later, whereas holding extends to what is declared earlier', and so forth: this is stated according to a thesis in causal inference. For instance, when a disciple of the Buddha proposes, 'Sound is impermanent', 'sound' is declared earlier, and 'impermanent' is stated later. Merely hearing the word 'sound', one is not yet able to produce understanding. Only when one hears 'impermanent' does understanding arise. Therefore, the sense of 'model-standard' does not extend to what is declared earlier. If one discusses the sense of 'holding', it extends to both earlier and later, because whether there is understanding or not yet understanding, [each] preserves its own nature.
