1.69

開阿賴耶染淨分位說九識者。真諦三藏譯九識論亦同楞伽。其前八識與此不殊。第九名為阿磨羅識。意說賴耶離生滅染。即是真如名阿磨羅識。而亦不離第八淨分是故無別第八識也。

Regarding 'Differentiating the defiled and pure states of the ālayavijñāna to speak of nine consciousnesses': the Treatise on the Nine Consciousnesses translated by Tripiṭaka Master Paramārtha is also the same as the Laṅkāvatāra. Its first eight consciousnesses do not differ from this. The ninth is called the amalavijñāna. The intention is that when the ālaya is free from defilement of arising and ceasing, that is tathatā, which is named amalavijñāna; yet it is not separate from the pure portion of the eighth, so there is no distinct eighth consciousness.
