[Treatise:] Second is the mark of being able to see... then there is no seeing.
[Commentary:] “The mark of being able to see” gives its name. This mention of “being able to see” is the “transforming consciousness” below; relying on the preceding activity consciousness, it transforms into that which is able to see. Hence it says, “Because it relies on movement, it is able to see.” If one considers the aspect of natural purity, there is no ability to see; hence it says, “if it is unmoving, then there is no seeing.” This conversely reveals the meaning that being able to see must rely on movement. Although such a transforming mark has that which can cognize, it has not yet grasped an object; because it is subtle, it is the seeing division of the fundamental consciousness.
