論。是菩薩至不依文字　述曰。下顯證用。於中顯有四種德用。一攝法上首德。二隨根延促德。三實行不殊德。四應機殊用德。此初也。是菩薩等者。此明請法。一念作意能至十方故。法唯為開導等者。顯其請意。唯為開導無聞眾生故。不依文字者。顯為他意。法出自心非依言解故。

[Treatise:] This bodhisattva [in a single moment of attention can go to the ten direction worlds] ... not relying on written words. [Commentary:] Below, the function of realization is revealed. Within this, four kinds of virtuous functions are revealed: first, the virtue of being the foremost in gathering the Dharma; second, the virtue of extending or shortening [lifespans] in accordance with capacities; third, the virtue of the actual practice not being different; fourth, the virtue of distinct functions responding to capacities. This is the first. "This bodhisattva" and so forth: this clarifies requesting the Dharma, because in a single moment of attention they can reach the ten directions. "The Dharma is solely to explain and guide" and so forth: this reveals the intention behind their requesting, which is solely for the sake of explaining and guiding sentient beings who have heard nothing. "Not relying on written words": this reveals the intention for others' sake, because the Dharma issues from one's own mind and is not understood by relying on words.
