[Treatise:] Furthermore, by what meaning [is it revealed]? ... is indicated through the characteristics of arising and ceasing.
[Exposition:] Below, it reveals differentiation within non-duality. In this, there are two parts: first brief, and then expanded. This is the first. In the text there are four lines. The first half is the phrasing of the doubt: since it is non-dual, by what [ground] does one speak of differentiation? The second half resolves and dispels it: relying on the defiled dharmas [as numerous as the] sands of the Ganges in arising and ceasing, by contrast with these, the differentiation of the virtues of reality is indicated. Temporarily citing the root of defilement, it mentions only karmic consciousness; in reality, it generally applies by contrast to all defilements.
