[Treatise:] What are the five? [... just like empty space].
[Commentary:] Next, specifically explaining them. The specific explanation of the five kinds is divided into five parts. In each and every text, there are three points: first, explaining the cause of the arising of the attachment; second, directly explaining the characteristic of the attachment; third, revealing its counteraction. This is the first. 'Ultimately quiescent' has the meaning of 'ultimate cessation and signlessness' in the new translation. This text is meant to refute those who grasp the physical marks of the body as the true Buddha; therefore it states that the substance of the dharmakāya is signless, just like empty space. This is what is spoken in the *Prajñāpāramitā* and other sūtras: "If one sees me by means of form..." because they cannot understand, and so forth.
