[Treatise:] if the mind gives rise to seeing, [there is that which is not seen; the nature of the mind is free from seeing, which is the meaning of pervading and illumining] the dharmadhātu; [Commentary:] This contrastively reveals the meaning of illumining all dharmas. One opinion holds: this text reveals this pure virtue in contrast to the characteristic of active seeing and the characteristic of objective fields, because they are the characteristics of active seeing and object seen; hence it says "giving rise to seeing is not seeing", and so forth. Another opinion holds: this also generally contrasts with all defilements; it merely says "giving rise to seeing" as the deluded mind, without stating that the objective fields are what is seen. Because the nature of the mind is free from these false seeings, it is spoken of as the meaning of illumining all dharmas.
