[Treatise:] If a person cultivates [… down to:] because it accords with the Dharma.
[Commentary:] This reveals that good practices accord with tathatā. Since [tathatā] is omnipresent throughout all phenomena, it is likewise not by a single practice that one can accord with it. Defilement arises from avidyā, whereas goodness flows from tathatā. If one cultivates good practices, they dispel delusion and accord with the real; therefore, cultivating wholesome dharmas naturally returns one to the real. What is spoken of here as 'all goodness' refers specifically to the practices of benefiting oneself and benefiting others. Thus, the new translation of the treatise states: 'One must gather all good practices to rescue all sentient beings universally, leave behind the defilements of adventitious dust, and only thereafter be able to reveal and manifest the real Dharma.'
