[Treatise:] Fifth is defilement unassociated with the [perceiving] mind, which can be abandoned relying on the stage of mastery over mind. [Commentary:] This is the second, the evolving consciousness, among the five minds. Relying on the mind's activation, it becomes the perceiver. Polluting the pure mind, it is called the defilement of perceiving. Reaching the ninth stage, one attains unimpeded wisdom, knowing well the dense forest of mental activities of sentient beings. Being unimpeded between self and others is called mastery over mind. Because the mind obstructed by avidyā never becomes manifest again, one is able to abandon it.
