The Upāliparipṛcchā-sūtra says: "Seeing ordinary beings as conditioned and the Buddha as unconditioned—seeing in this way is not the view of equality. Seeing the dharmas of ordinary beings as empty and the Buddha-dharmas as also empty—seeing in this way is called the view of equality. Seeing a monk who commits transgressions as not entering hell, and one of pure practice as not realizing nirvāṇa—seeing in this way is called the view of equality."
