1.72

清淨增上力等者。清淨力者。謂善根力以能降伏所除障故。增上力者。謂大願力常作善友增進道故。堅固心者。由善根力大菩提心堅固不退。心昇進者。由大願力修善之心運運增長。此依攝論二釋文說。而本釋中謬以善根為增上力。智者詳之。

As for "the power of purity, the predominating power, etc.": the "power of purity" refers to the power of wholesome roots, because it can subdue the hindrances to be eliminated. The "predominating power" refers to the power of great vows, because it constantly serves as a spiritual friend to advance upon the path. "A firm mind": through the power of wholesome roots, the great bodhicitta is firm and non-retrogressive. "The mind ascending and advancing": through the power of great vows, the mind practicing wholesome deeds grows continuously. This is stated according to the two commentaries on the Mahāyānasaṃgraha; yet the root commentary mistakenly took wholesome roots as the predominating power. Let the wise examine this.
