"Binding the crown of the head with a spotless silk band": like those in the Western regions who inherit high positions and all bind their heads with fresh silk, now this bodhisattva practices the giving of Dharma and marks the head with pure phenomena, and therefore binds the crown of the head with a spotless silk band. Thus the Avataṃsaka states: "O son of the Buddha! This bodhisattva takes the giving of Dharma as foremost, and thereafter gives rise to all pure white phenomena"; this is precisely the meaning of binding the crown of the head with a clean silk band.
