Towering is Amitābha, / who has subdued the māra of birth and death. / In the land of jewelled ponds and pearl groves, / many are reborn in Sukhāvatī. / Towering is Amitābha; / many are the sentient beings who recite his name. / Able to extinguish the darkness of ignorance, / he guides them out of the river of suffering. / Towering is Amitābha; / the span of his life is truly hard to surpass. / With eighty-four thousand marks, / gazing at him in contemplation one crosses the river of desire. / Towering is Amitābha; / many are the sentient beings who recite his name. / In a kṣaṇa they ascend the jewelled realm; / with spirits purified, they are forever without māras. / Superior is Mahāsthāmaprāpta; / his compassionate vows are broad and boundless. / The light from the vase atop his crown shines forth, / pitying all his children. / The pure land has lapis lazuli ground, / coral, agate, and pearls. / Golden sand shines through clear water; / the adorned realm is entirely as such. / How could the jewelled land lack joy? / The golden light is all terraces. / Mani gems and the bright moon shine; / when the time arrives, they naturally blossom. / Human life is like morning dew; / one must not deliberately delay. / Urgently, diligently must one recite, / awaiting the time Amitābha welcomes. / Due to recitation of the Buddha's name, / ignorance is extinguished. / Only those deep in samādhi / can accord with correct knowledge. / Sukhāvatī's Dharma gate is open, / yet sentient beings are unwilling to come. / Merely bound by ignorance, / they suffer its calamities for eternal kalpas. / Not awakening to the principle of true suchness, / they sink into the river of desire for a long time. / Constantly greedy for wealth and cherishing sensual form, / they transmigrate much in evil destinies. / I often rejoice and marvel to myself, / deeply awakened to the principle of true suchness. / Afflictions are fundamentally non-existent; / sentient beings arise false views. / Sukhāvatī is exceedingly exquisite; / all people fail to know it. / Within it is the host Amitābha; / together they come to pay homage. / If you wish to know the unborn principle, / you need only recite the Buddha's name. / The clouds of worldly toil completely disperse; / the sun of wisdom shines bright and clear. / If you wish to see the principle of true suchness, / you need only contemplate the white curl. / The clouds of ignorance completely disperse; / the mirror of wisdom shines high and bright. / Seeing true suchness is seeing nothing; / having no seeing is true suchness. / If one understands this meaning, / it is named the bright-moon pearl.
