The Dharma mirror shines upon the void; / with mind penetrating, one awakens to the firmness of form. / In the wondrous lands and mounds of supernatural powers, / the Dharma realm is completely identical. / The mind's intent is uniquely and constantly pure of itself; / divine radiance pervades the ten directions. / Knowing that mind has no physical location, / in liberation one attains coolness. / Contemplating the image, yet there is no image; / chanting in a loud voice, one is untainted by sound. / Fully understanding that nothing exists, / the mirror of wisdom is brilliantly luminous. / Still and tranquil, the subtle spirit is serene; / peaceful, it has no object of cognition. / Sitting and reclining in heavenly palaces, / one transcends and leaves behind humans and devas. / Momentarily led to stand beside the pond, / one washes away the mud within the mind. / Clean, pure, and without dust or defilement, / may you realize bodhi! / Do not let the mirror of wisdom become dark; / constantly let the jewel of knowledge be bright. / Worldly toil must be severed; / the jewelled seat naturally comes to welcome. / Focusing the thought, constantly contemplate; / the samādhi is the treasure of the jewelled king. / Thoroughly comprehending the Tripiṭaka teaching, / brush away the mud within the mind. / If people now concentrate on reciting the Buddha's name, / those who recite will enter deep dhyāna. / At nightfall, sit with upright mind; / the West is right before your eyes. / Reciting, one knows there is no recitation; / no recitation is true suchness. / If one understands this meaning, / it is called the jewel of dharmatā. / The Pure Land is right in the heart; / foolish people seek it outside. / There is a jewelled mirror in the heart; / failing to recognize it, a lifetime is wasted. / The Buddhas are right in the heart; / you cannot seek them yourself. / Be careful not to let it pass in vain; / make haste early on to seek diligently. / Everyone has the jewelled mirror; / foolish people do not understand how to polish it. / Having never turned back to shine upon themselves, / dust and grime increase even more. / Every person has the jewelled mirror; / the wise person knows how to polish it. / Diligently turning back to shine upon themselves, / dust and grime do not approach. / The wish-fulfilling jewel of the mind is ever clear and luminous; / original nature is inherently round and bright. / Awakening to the principle, one knows the true direction; / reciting the Buddha's name is the unborn. / Grind it into dust, it is gold ore; / within the ore, gold is not seen. / The wise person smelts and refines it; / true gold manifests from within. / The marks of the Buddha are empty and without marks; / true suchness is tranquil and does not speak. / With the mouth one speaks of the teaching of words; / in this realm one forgets the dhyāna of marks. / The ultimate Dharma of nirvāṇa / is secret and not taught to be transmitted. / The mind penetrating, it is constantly applied of itself; / with majesty it will deliver those with affinity. / The three vehicles originally did not know it; / non-Buddhists have never heard of it. / Those of small marks have never heard of it; / there is a vow that it not be casually spread. / If on the road you meet a worthy and good person, / clasp hands and transmit it to each other; / if on the road you meet an unworthy person, / even between son and father it is not transmitted.
