花中得上品 一念十方遊
The pure land in the west is wondrous; / Everyone says it is lovely. / Diligently practice the recitation of the Buddha's name, / And you will forever leave behind humans and gods. / In the Pure Land there are golden gardens; / When the mind penetrates, it realizes the solidity of form. / Amitābha gathers all in; / We universally vow to sit upon red lotuses. / The jasper hue of the lotus ponds is bright; / Golden blossoms fill every place. / Jade gates echo with clear sounds; / Earnestly bid farewell to the five defilements. / Make an appointment together for the west; / Do not be deluded by the suffering of birth and death, / Nor harbor doubts about the Pure Land. / Wondrous pavilions of purple gold, / Lapis lazuli and groves of seven jewels. / The lotus ponds have flowers of varied hues; / Bodhisattvas wander and chant above. / Arriving now in the pure realm, / The lotus flowers have long opened their doors. / Relying on the power of the great vows, / In a single thought one sits upon a lotus dais. / In the pure land are trees of jambūnada gold; / Between them hang jewel nets. / From time to time they yield precious fruits; / Let the assembly contemplate with focused mind. / Jeweled palaces and golden pavilions, / Red lotuses grow in jasper ponds. / Only know to diligently recite the Buddha's name / With thousands of wondrous verses and words. / Seven jewels form the palaces; / Golden lotuses serve as daises. / Those who recite the Buddha's name with sincere mind / Shall all ascend the blossoms. / In Amitābha's Sukhāvatī, / Precious birds make sounds. / Listen to the meaning within their calls, / Summoning the Dharma into the golden city. / Peacocks sit before the Buddha; / Mandarin ducks playfully chant. / White cranes dance in the palaces; / Parrots pluck their own lutes. / Pond waters appear before you; / Blossom groves accord with the dharmakāya. / If you only uphold the wondrous scriptures, / The Buddhas will bear witness to your realizing reality. / Sitting briefly beside the dais, / Amitābha beholds my body, / And asks: "My sons, / Are all of you who were reborn well?" / A cluster of red lotuses, / And another cluster of green; / In their midst are transformationally born sons, / Whose speech is exceedingly distinct. / If you wish to attain rebirth in the west, / You must solely exert yourself in reciting the Buddha's name. / Cultivate pure karma with a humble mind, / And majestically enter the jeweled hall. / In Sukhāvatī there are no lamps or fires; / Each illuminates according to its form. / Only know to diligently recite the Buddha's name, / And you will quickly awaken to the unborn. / The World-Honoured One ascends the jeweled tower, / Dwelling at the summit of the conjured city. / May your minds be pure; / Strive early and seek with diligence. / Sukhāvatī appears right before you; / Ignorance keeps you from seeing it. / Exert your body and diligently repent, / And the Compassionate Lord will come on his own. / In the west are jeweled towers; / The noble assembly comes on its own. / Ever reciting the Buddha's name in song, / Within the mind they speak of the unborn. / The Buddhas follow one's person; / Deluded people do not exert themselves. / The assembly must diligently recite, / Always rejoicing in their minds. / The wondrous land appears within the mind, / All because of abundant pure karma. / Entering samādhi with a sincere mind, / One leaves the bitter Sahā forever. / With a single wholesome thought of the wondrous land, / One's name is known in the ten directions. / Diligently recite Amitābha Buddha; / Now is the very time to generate the aspiration for awakening. / If you wish to seek samādhi, / Nothing surpasses collecting your own mind. / Let neither body nor mind be interrupted, / And the Compassionate Lord will come to seek you. / Sukhāvatī is truly the pure land; / Other realms cannot surpass it. / With every thought, seek samādhi; / Entering absorption, behold Amitābha. / Pond water reflects golden sands; / Lotuses bloom everywhere in profusion. / Those who recite the Buddha's name all go there, / Freely engaging in walking meditation at will. / If you seek the joy of samādhi, / Nothing surpasses exerting yourself fully. / Truly practicing the teachings of the World-Honoured One / Enables the assembly to behold the golden body. / That all Buddhas have attained the taintless / Is entirely due to cultivation over repeated eons. / Those who wish to be born in the Pure Land / Must diligently seek it within their minds. / Piled-up treasures are like mountains, / Yet sentient beings cannot seek them. / Carrying a bright mirror within, / Failing to recognize it, their whole life is in vain. / Jeweled pavilions, golden tower nets, / A rain of flowers fills the pond pavilions. / Pure sounds from pipes of seven jewels / Sound naturally without being played. / The Buddha's power empowers me, / Today to emerge from the river of craving; / In an instant born in that land, / Returning here to rescue Sahā. / The waters over golden sand in the Pure Land / Ever flow around the Buddha. / If someone enters absorption and sees this, / Rejoicing, what further sorrow could there be? / Hearing of rebirth in human form— / The pond is my true home. / Riding the lotus, one is bound to be at ease, / Roaming playfully and scattering heavenly flowers. / Now I abide in samādhi; / The lotus colors blaze with radiance. / The mind wanders through the palaces of seven jewels, / Paying homage to the Buddha, unable to return. / If someone thinks of retreating, / The petals of their lotus will droop. / With focused mind diligently recite the Buddha's name, / And the flower's hue will glow with greater brilliance. / The sea of suffering is vast and boundless; / Amitābha's vow-power is the boat. / Welcoming and taking [beings] to be born in the Pure Land, / All come to sit upon red lotuses. / The bodhisattvas of the Pure Land / Extensively cultivated with diligence due to this; / Attaining the highest grade within the blossoms, / In a single thought they roam the ten directions.
