"Śāriputra, what do you think? For what reason is that Buddha named Amitābha? Śāriputra, that Buddha's light is immeasurable, illuminating the lands of the ten directions without any obstruction; therefore he is named Amitābha. Moreover, Śāriputra, the lifespan of that Buddha and his people lasts for immeasurable and boundless asaṃkhyeya-kalpas; therefore he is named Amitābha. Śāriputra, since Amitābha Buddha attained buddhahood, it has now been ten kalpas. Moreover, Śāriputra, that Buddha has immeasurable and boundless śrāvaka disciples, all of whom are arhats, beyond the ability of calculation to know; and so it is with the bodhisattvas. Śāriputra, that Buddha-land is accomplished with such virtues and adornments as these.
