The following fascicle of praise is separated from the eighth gate, 'Praising the Buddha and Attaining Benefit'. The assembly must all harmonize using the third tempo of reciting the Buddha's name. Practitioners must memorize all of these hymn texts, making themselves thoroughly familiar with them; by no means may they hold the book and read from it at the actual time. It may also be chanted generally when conducting ritual services for great assemblies. If it is not the day of a great assembly, in all other places, chanting the praises and reciting the Buddha's name and harmonizing them are both permissible. One must know the proper time for expansion or abbreviation. This should be known.
