爾時。佛告信相菩薩摩訶薩言。善男子。汝向自說。過去有佛名寶勝。苦惱眾生。一聞名字。命終生天。今復請我。說諸佛名。使諸眾生。離苦出世。是故我今。為汝及眾。具說三寶。理是一寶。隨順說三。若人聞者。至心憶念。欲壽終時。值善知識。教令三稱。三寶名字。作如是言。

At that time, the Buddha addressed the Bodhisattva-Mahāsattva *Śraddhāpratibhāna, saying: "Good son, earlier you yourself said that in the past there was a Buddha named Prabhūtaratna, and that tormented sentient beings, upon hearing his name once, were born in heaven at the end of their lives. Now you have requested me again to proclaim the names of the Buddhas, so that sentient beings may leave suffering behind and transcend the world. Therefore, I will now explain the Three Jewels fully for you and the assembly. In principle, they are one jewel; in accordance [with provisional means], three are taught. If a person hears this, single-mindedly keeps it in mind, and, when approaching the end of life, meets a kalyāṇamitra who instructs them to invoke three times the names of the Three Jewels, saying these words:
