2.44

爾時。虛空藏菩薩白佛言。世尊。經中所說。邪見破戒。不得共一國同住。一河飲水。說戒布薩。懺悔自恣。此人名為。退失聖道。不入眾數。云何而言。得消供養。若消供養。即與諸佛。同受應供。過於羅漢。辟支佛等。唯願世尊。分別說之。我聞此已。亦為眾生。如佛解說。令得度脫。

At that time, Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva said to the Buddha: "Bhagavat, it is said in the sūtras that those of false views and broken precepts may not dwell in the same state, drink from the same river, recite the precepts, hold poṣadha, perform kṣamā, or conduct pravāraṇā together. Such a person is named one who has fallen away from the noble path and does not enter into the community's assembly. How can it be said that they can consume offerings? If they consume offerings, they would receive the worthy-of-offerings status equally with the Buddhas, surpassing the arhats and pratyekabuddhas. We only pray that the Bhagavat will explain this in detail. Having heard this, I will also explain it for sentient beings just as the Buddha has explained it, causing them to attain deliverance."
