Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva said to the Buddha: "Bhagavat, as the Buddha has said, what was originally ordinary practice is now noble practice; what was originally defilement, through reading and upholding this sūtra, comes to share nirvāṇa together with all the Buddhas and Tathāgatas. If those who have broken the precepts, committed the five unpardonable offenses, and slandered the True Dharma read and uphold this sūtra, sever their defilements, and equally attain nirvāṇa, this meaning is difficult to comprehend. We only pray that the Bhagavat will explain it for us."
