The Buddha told Ānanda: "This sūtra is named Sūtra on the Profound Kindness of Parents. If there are any sentient beings who, for the sake of their parents, can make merit, produce this sūtra, burn incense, invite the Buddha, bow in homage and make offerings to the Three Jewels, or offer food and drink to the saṅgha, you should know that these people can repay their parents' kindness." Śakra, the Brahmā King, all the gods, human beings, and all sentient beings, hearing the sūtra, rejoiced, gave rise to the mind of a bodhisattva, wept aloud until the earth shook, shed tears like rain, threw their five limbs to the ground, faithfully accepted [the teaching], prostrated at the Buddha's feet, and joyfully put it into practice.
