7.74

佛告法印菩薩：「汝今善聽！過去諸佛於現在未來，是謂人種。現在於未來，是謂人種。未來於過去、現在，是謂人種。於三世法，現在於過去、未來，最為第一。何以故？如來於現在中能行過去、未來法。何以故勝？過去已滅、未來未至，法性自然，非過去能滅現在、未來，非未來能滅過去、現在。」

The Buddha told Bodhisattva Dharmamudrā: “Listen well now! The past Buddhas in relation to the present and the future are called the seed of humans. The present in relation to the future is called the seed of humans. The future in relation to the past and the present is called the seed of humans. Among the phenomena of the three times, the present is foremost in relation to the past and the future. Why is that? In the present, the Tathāgata is able to enact the phenomena of the past and the future. Why is it superior? The past has already ceased, and the future has not yet arrived; the nature of phenomena is naturally so. The past cannot extinguish the present and future, nor can the future extinguish the past and present.”
