The Buddha told Kāśyapa: "I shall speak a parable for you; the wise attain understanding through parables. In the past there was a king whose name was extraordinary. The king had four sons: the first was named Joyous; the second was named Long Life; the third was named Hundred Years; the fourth was named Fearless. That son named Long Life died before completing a full month. As for the Joyous son, his body developed sores and ulcers, and whoever saw him despised him; his parents were weary and troubled by him, and were never happy. The son named Hundred Years also met his death before completing a hundred days. The Fearless son had a hare-lip, a flat nose, crooked teeth, and protruding fangs; people saw him and were terrified. This is also like that: ideation, sensation, and consciousness have no such various distinctions."
