"At that time, as Śakra, king of the gods, recollected the Buddha's merits, the asura forces gradually retreated, and from the rear garden of the four gates they entered the water of the pool and hid within the thread-like pores of the lotus stems. Then Śakra Devānām Indra ordered his great ministers: 'Quickly assemble the troops; I wish to pursue the asura forces.' Thereupon the ministers of Śakra, receiving the celestial king's order, gathered the celestial host and searched at the four gates. They saw only swords, armour, bows, and arrows lying on the ground, but did not see the asura host. Advancing step by step, they entered straight into the asura's palace, where they saw tens of millions of Baha asura maidens, but did not see the asuras themselves. They took all the maidens and returned to the Trāyastriṃśa palace. At that time, all the asuras begged for mercy and took refuge before Śakra Devānām Indra, saying: 'We were foolish and deluded, not knowing that the spiritual power of a disciple of the Buddha was sublime like this. Our ancestors had faith in and honoured the Tathāgata, and we have heard that the Buddha has a precept against taking what is not given. Now you, celestial King Śakra, have taken our retinues and filled your celestial palace with them entirely; this is not the practice followed by a disciple of the Buddha.'"
