7.37

"In my past practices through countless births, I was a wheel-turning sage king; through countless births, I was Śakra, king of the gods; through countless births, I was a Brahmā king. Upholding the noble eightfold poṣadha precepts, I crossed over difficulties and rescued those in distress. Even if the four continents were filled with blazing flames like the conflagration at the end of a kalpa, if one single-mindedly takes refuge, calls upon the name of the Tathāgata, and upholds the eightfold poṣadha precepts, though one throws oneself into the flames, they cannot burn; if filled with water, the water cannot drown. The eightfold poṣadha precepts are the father and mother of all Buddhas."
