"Third, as for revulsion and dispassion: together one should contemplate that within birth and death, there is only impermanence, suffering, emptiness, non-self, and impurity. It is as illusory as bubbles on water, rapidly arising and rapidly perishing, turning round and round like a wheel; birth, old age, sickness, and death—the eight sufferings—scorch and torment without ceasing for even a moment. All of you together, merely observe your own bodies from head to foot: inside there are only the thirty-six substances—hair of the head, hair of the body, nails, teeth, pustules, snot, and spit; the two receptacles of the raw and the digested, the large intestine, the small intestine; spleen, kidneys, heart, lungs, liver, gallbladder, stomach, fat, grease, caul, sinews, vessels, bones, and marrow; excrement and urine constantly flowing from the nine apertures. Therefore the sūtra says: 'This body is a collection of manifold sufferings, all consisting of impure things; how could anyone with wisdom take delight in this foul, fleshy body?' Since birth and death contain such manifold evil phenomena, one should deeply abhor and turn away from them.
