16.20

「是故，弟子！今日發露懺悔不敢覆藏。所言三障者：一曰煩惱障；二名為業障；三是果報障。此三種法更相由藉，因煩惱故所以起惡業，惡業因緣故得苦果。

"Therefore, today we disciples openly confess and perform kṣamā, not daring to conceal [anything]. The so-called three hindrances are: first, the hindrance of afflictions; second, the hindrance of karma; third, the hindrance of retribution. These three dharmas are mutually dependent: through afflictions, evil karma arises; through the condition of evil karma, painful results are obtained.
