「比丘！我知彼過去諸佛如現前見。彼諸佛母同名摩訶摩耶，父同名輸頭檀王，城同名迦毘羅。彼諸佛第一聲聞弟子，同名舍利弗、目揵連，侍者弟子同名阿難陀。何況種種異名母？異名父？異名城？異名弟子？異名侍者？

"Bhikṣu! I know those past Buddhas as though seeing them right before my eyes. The mothers of those Buddhas were all alike named Mahāmāyā; their fathers were all alike named King Śuddhodana; their cities were all alike named Kapilavastu; the foremost śrāvaka disciples of those Buddhas were all alike named Śāriputra and Maudgalyāyana; their attendant disciples were all alike named Ānanda. How much more so those with various different names of mothers, different names of fathers, different names of cities, different names of disciples, and different names of attendants?
