17.96

羅剎答曰：「此諸沙門受佛淨戒而不能持，亦不清淨楊枝漱口，手不清淨多有垢穢，或手捉男根女根捉不淨物，脾中有臭穢而不除去便捉經像。以是因緣，墮此地獄，經千萬劫而不能出，若得為人身不具足。」

The rākṣasa replied: 'These śramaṇas received the pure precepts of the Buddha but were unable to uphold them. Neither did they purify themselves by using willow twigs to rinse their mouths; their hands were not clean and bore much filth; or their hands held male or female organs and grasped impure things, and without removing the foul impurities from their armpits, they straightaway held sūtras and images. Due to these causes and conditions, they fell into this hell, where they cannot escape for thousands of myriads of kalpas; and even if they attain human birth, their bodies will be incomplete.'
