"Disciple[s]! From anādikāla until today, we have accumulated evil like the sands of the Ganges and created sins filling heaven and earth; casting off bodies and taking on bodies without realization or knowledge. We have either committed the five heinous sins of deep, heavy, defiling bonds, the karmas of the Avīci hell; or created the karma of an icchantika cutting off wholesome roots; or lightly slandered the Buddha's words, committing the karma of disparaging the vaipulya scriptures; the karma of destroying the Triratna and damaging the true Dharma; the karma of lacking faith in sin and merit and giving rise to the ten unwholesome actions; the karma of being deluded about truth and perverting righteousness in foolish confusion; the rebellious karma of unfilial conduct toward one's two parents; the karma of slighting and slighting teachers and elders, lacking respect and reverence; the untrustworthy and unrighteous karma toward friends. Or committing karmas obstructing the holy path of the four pārājikas, six pārājikas, or eight pārājikas; the karma of violating the five precepts and breaking the eight poṣadha vows; the karma of many infractions and violations among the five classes and seven groups of precepts; the karmas of light and heavy taints regarding the upāsaka precepts. Or the karma of being unable to keep the bodhisattva precepts pure as expounded; the karma of defiling the brahmacarya through preceding or succeeding skillful means; the indolent karma of omitting the six poṣadha days of the month; the karma of failing to constantly follow the three long vegetarian fasts of the year; the karma of nonconformity with the Dharma regarding the three thousand comportments; the subtle sinful karma regarding the eighty thousand comportments; the karma of not following bodily precepts and mental truth; the karma of creating various sins during the eight seasonal transition kings of spring and autumn; the karma of practicing the sixteen kinds of evil rules. The karma of lacking pity for suffering sentient beings, lacking tenderness; the karma of not pulling out, not rescuing, and having no protection [for others]; the karma of harboring jealousy in one's mind without delivering others; the karma of not having equality toward enemies and kin; the karma of indulging in the five desires without renunciation. Or through clothing, food, gardens, and ponds, the dissolute karma of pursuing livelihood; or through prime years indulging passions and desires, creating various sins; or the karma of having contaminated wholesome roots dedicated toward the three existences, obstructing world-transcendence. Such karmas are measureless and boundless; today we confess them all, facing the Buddhas, revered Dharma, and holy Saṅgha of the ten directions, repenting them all.
