The Buddha told Baoda Bodhisattva: "In the eastern direction there is the great Iron Enclosure Mountain. In the dark and obscure recesses within that mountain, which cannot be reached by the light of the sun and moon or by firelight, is that named hell. Within that hell there are evil śramaṇas undergoing such sins. You may go there and question those sinners: 'By what causes and conditions have you come to be born in this place? What kinds of practices did you cultivate to undergo such punishment?'"
