"Therefore, today we disciples arouse this supreme, superior mind to perform kṣamā for the three hindrances. If one wishes to eradicate the sins of these three hindrances, with what kind of mind should one act so that these sins can be eradicated? One must first arouse seven kinds of minds to serve as skillful means, and only then can these sins be eradicated. What are the seven? The first is shame and remorse; the second is fear and dread; the third is aversion and revulsion; the fourth is generating the bodhicitta; the fifth is impartiality toward enemies and kin; the sixth is mindfulness of repaying the Buddha's kindness; the seventh is contemplating the emptiness of the nature of sin.
