"Seventh, regarding contemplating the emptiness of the nature of sin: it has no true mark, but is born of causes and conditions and exists through inversion. Since it is born of causes and conditions, it can likewise be extinguished through causes and conditions. Being born of causes and conditions means drawing near to evil friends and committing evil without reason. Being extinguished through causes and conditions means washing one's heart and performing kṣamā today. Therefore, a sūtra says: 'The mark of this sin is not inside, not outside, and not in between. Therefore, know that this sin is originally empty.'
