"Śāriputra, if a bhikṣu, bhikṣuṇī, upāsaka, or upāsikā wishes to perform kṣamā for their various offenses, they should bathe cleanly, don newly cleaned robes, clean and purify the room, arrange a high seat, set up an image of the Buddha, hang twenty-five banners, offer various flowers and incenses, recite the names of these twenty-five Buddhas, and perform kṣamā through the six periods of the day and night. When twenty-five days are complete, offenses such as the four grave offenses and eight grave offenses will be extinguished. For śikṣamāṇās, śrāmaṇeras, and śrāmaṇerikās, it is also likewise."
