7.10
Having paid homage to the triratna, next perform kṣamā again:
7.11
“We disciples with our whole hearts repent of our sins of lustful desire. It is said in the sūtra: ‘Only due to lustful desire are beings confined in the prison of ignorance, sinking in the river of saṃsāra without being able to emerge.’ It is on account of these five desires that sentient beings have transmigrated through saṃsāra since beginningless time. The bones accumulated from each sentient being's bodies in a single kalpa equal Mount Vipula at Rājagṛha; the mother's milk they have drunk is like the waters of the four oceans; and the blood shed from their bodies exceeds even this. The tears shed by their parents, siblings, and six classes of kin weeping at their death are like the waters of the four oceans. Therefore it is said: ‘Where there is craving, there is birth; when craving is exhausted, birth ceases.’ Thus we know that craving and love are the root of saṃsāra. Therefore the sūtra says: ‘The sin of sexual misconduct can cause sentient beings to fall into the hells and hungry ghosts to endure suffering; if among beasts, they receive bodies such as pigeons, sparrows, and mandarin ducks; if born among humans, their wives will not be chaste and virtuous, and they will receive uncongenial dependents.’ Since sexual misconduct has such evil karmas, therefore we disciples today with whole hearts bow our heads and take refuge in the Buddha:
7.12
“Namo King of Lion's Roar Buddha of the east; namo Great Cloud Treasury Buddha of the south; namo Amitāyus Buddha of the west; namo Red Lotus Light Buddha of the north; namo Pure Vaidūrya Buddha of the southeast; namo Supreme Subduer Buddha of the southwest; namo Scattering Flowers Generating Merit Buddha of the northwest; namo Mind Like Space Buddha of the northeast; namo Vimalakīrtirāja Buddha of the nadir; namo Pure Ocean of Wisdom Buddha of the zenith.
7.13
“Namas to all the triratna throughout empty space and the worlds of the ten directions. From anādikāla until today, we disciples may have had illicit relations with others' wives and concubines, seized others' women, violated chaste women, defiled bhikṣuṇīs, broken others' brahma-conduct, committed forced violations against the Way, harboured impure minds, gazed flirtatiously, used lewd language to banter and mock, brought shame on others' families, defiled the reputation of the virtuous and good, or engaged in impure conduct toward the five types of eunuchs. Sins such as these are immeasurable and boundless; today with utmost sincerity we take refuge and repent of them.
7.14
“We disciples, from anādikāla until today, may have received female bodies and had minds like wild horses, constantly unrestrained every day without being settled for even a single moment, always harbouring evil thoughts and constantly giving rise to lustful desires; or at gatherings in the saṅghārāma, lacked the heart to listen to the Dharma while our eyes constantly gazed with longing; or seduced and lusted after śramaṇas, corrupted other men, took no joy in the Buddha-Dharma, and indulged our lustful feelings, causing our minds to drift across the great ocean and lose sight of the shore in darkness; or defiled the saṅgha's three robes and Dharma vestments; or engaged in impure conduct, caressing and fondling one another in the monasteries and courtyards. Sins such as these are immeasurable and boundless; today with shame and remorse, with our whole hearts we repent of them.
7.15
“Furthermore, we disciples, from anādikāla until today, may have become women constantly harbouring lustful desires; or usurped others' husbands and bewitched men; or cast magical talismans and evil spells causing others' wives to fall sick, so that people of little merit were possessed by malevolent spirits, giving sick demons an opportunity to strike, and without meeting a good physician, they ultimately died. Sins such as these are immeasurable and boundless; today with shame and remorse, confessing our faults, with utmost sincerity we bow our heads, take refuge, and repent of them.
7.16
“Furthermore, we disciples, from anādikāla until today, may have had our eyes captivated by forms, feeling lustful attachment to black, yellow, red, crimson, vermilion, purple, rare curios, and precious jewels; or seized upon the signs of men and women—their height, shortness, fairness, darkness, and seductive postures—and given rise to unlawful thoughts; or our ears craved pleasing sounds—the notes of the pentatonic scale, strings, pipes, instrumental music, and singing; or seized upon the vocal expressions, words, weeping, and laughing of men and women, giving rise to unlawful thoughts; or our noses relied on famous fragrances—incense, musk, deep orchid, saffron, and storax—giving rise to unlawful thoughts; or our tongues craved fine flavours—fresh, delicious, sweet, and rich meats and blood of sentient beings to sustain our four elements, further increasing the root of suffering and giving rise to unlawful thoughts; or our bodies delighted in florid patterns, brocades, embroideries, silks, gauzes, and all manner of fine, smooth, seven-jeweled splendours of dress, giving rise to unlawful thoughts; or our minds entertained many confused thoughts, clashing with the Dharma in every encounter. Entertaining these six thoughts created exceedingly severe transgressions. Sins such as these are immeasurable and boundless; today with utmost sincerity, before the Buddhas of the ten directions, the honored Dharma, and the holy assembly, we take refuge and repent of them.
7.17
“May we disciples, by relying on the merit generated from repenting of these sins of sexual desire and the like, be reborn naturally through spontaneous transformation life after life without passing through a womb, pure and immaculate, endowed with marks and signs of lustrous splendour, with the six faculties clear, sharp, intelligent, and lucid, fully realizing that affection is like fetters and stocks, contemplating these six dusts as like illusions and phantoms, definitely feeling revulsion and detachment toward the realms of the five desires, to the point of not giving rise to unwholesome thoughts even in dreams, completely unmovable by internal or external conditions.
7.18
“May the merit from repenting the eye faculty enable these eyes to see through to the pure dharmakāyas of all Buddhas and bodhisattvas of the ten directions without dual appearance; may the merit from repenting the ear faculty enable these ears always to hear the true Dharma spoken by all the Buddhas and sages of the ten directions and practice in accordance with the teaching; may the merit from repenting the nose faculty enable this nose always to smell the fragrance of Entering the Dharma Realm from Gandhamādana, renouncing the impure foulness of saṃsāra; may the merit from repenting the tongue faculty enable this tongue always to taste the food of Dharma joy and dhyāna delight, not craving the taste of sentient beings' blood and flesh; may the merit from repenting the body faculty enable this body to put on the Tathāgata's robe, wear the armour of forbearance, recline on the bed of fearlessness, and sit on the seat of the four dhyānas; may the merit from repenting the mind faculty enable this mind to accomplish the ten perceptions, thoroughly penetrate the five sciences, deeply contemplate the principle of emptiness and equality of the two truths, give rise to the ten wondrous practices from expedient wisdom, enter the stream of the Dharma growing clearer in every thought-moment, and manifest the Tathāgata's great anutpattikadharmakṣānti.”

Mahāyāna Lotus Sūtra on Baoda's Dialogue Regarding the Retribution of Śramaṇas
7.20
Soon after, Baoda entered yet another hell, called the Fire-Elephant Hell. In that hell there were naturally fire-elephants. The bodies of these elephants were exceedingly huge; fire burned upon their bodies, spewing forth smoke and flames together, and fire also blazed from their mouths and eyes. When the sinners saw them, being crowded and pressed, they wailed and were unwilling to advance. The jailer yakṣas pitchforked them onto the elephants; the elephants leapt and bucked, so the sinners fell to the ground, where fires blazed and scorched their bodies. In a single day and a single night, they died a thousand times and were reborn a thousand times, died ten thousand times and were reborn ten thousand times. Emerging from the hell, if born among humans, their bodies would be incomplete—eunuchs, hermaphrodites, impotent men, or barren women.
7.21
Baoda asked the horse-headed rākṣasa: “What sins did these śramaṇas commit to receive such retribution?”
7.22
The rākṣasa replied: “These śramaṇas received the pure precepts of the Buddha but did not maintain them purely. They engaged in sexual misconduct, lacked proper deportment, and with impure bodies entered the shrines of Buddha images, where they cast sidelong glances and rubbed against the Buddha images without shame or remorse in their hearts. Due to these causes and conditions, they fell into the hell and suffered such retribution.”
7.23
Having heard this, Baoda wept sorrowfully and departed.
