“We disciples with our whole hearts repent of our sins of lustful desire. It is said in the sūtra: ‘Only due to lustful desire are beings confined in the prison of ignorance, sinking in the river of saṃsāra without being able to emerge.’ It is on account of these five desires that sentient beings have transmigrated through saṃsāra since beginningless time. The bones accumulated from each sentient being's bodies in a single kalpa equal Mount Vipula at Rājagṛha; the mother's milk they have drunk is like the waters of the four oceans; and the blood shed from their bodies exceeds even this. The tears shed by their parents, siblings, and six classes of kin weeping at their death are like the waters of the four oceans. Therefore it is said: ‘Where there is craving, there is birth; when craving is exhausted, birth ceases.’ Thus we know that craving and love are the root of saṃsāra. Therefore the sūtra says: ‘The sin of sexual misconduct can cause sentient beings to fall into the hells and hungry ghosts to endure suffering; if among beasts, they receive bodies such as pigeons, sparrows, and mandarin ducks; if born among humans, their wives will not be chaste and virtuous, and they will receive uncongenial dependents.’ Since sexual misconduct has such evil karmas, therefore we disciples today with whole hearts bow our heads and take refuge in the Buddha:
