佛告優波離：「若善男子、善女人，犯諸禁戒造眾惡業，聞是菩薩大悲名字，五體投地誠心懺悔，是諸惡業速得清淨。未來世中諸眾生等，聞是菩薩大悲名稱，造立形像，香花、衣服、繒蓋、幢幡，禮拜繫念，此人命欲終時，彌勒菩薩放眉間白毫大人相光，與諸天子雨曼陀羅花，來迎此人。此人須臾即得往生，值遇彌勒，頭面禮敬，未舉頭頃便得聞法，即於無上道得不退轉，於未來世得值恒河沙等諸佛如來。」

The Buddha said to Upāli: “If good sons and good daughters violate the prohibitive precepts and commit manifold evil deeds, yet hear the name of this Bodhisattva of Great Compassion, cast the five limbs to the ground, and repent with sincere hearts, these evil deeds will swiftly become purified. If sentient beings in future ages hear the renowned name of this Bodhisattva of Great Compassion, create images [of him], and with incense, flowers, robes, silk canopies, banners, and streamers pay homage with fixed mindfulness, then when their lives are about to end, Maitreya Bodhisattva will emit the light of the white ūrṇā mark of a great person from between his eyebrows, and together with devaputras raining down mandārava flowers, come to welcome them. In an instant, they will attain rebirth, meet Maitreya, and bow with head to the ground in reverence; before they have even raised their heads, they will hear the Dharma, immediately attain non-retrogression on the supreme path, and in future ages meet Buddhas and Tathāgatas numerous as the sands of the Ganges.”
