"Furthermore, having completed mindfulness of inhalation, one next practices mindfulness of feeling. Having attained mindfulness of the body in reality, one now further attains mindfulness of feeling in reality, experiencing joy. Furthermore, having known the true mark of the body, one now wishes to know the true mark of the mind and mental factors; therefore, experiencing joy, one is also mindful of the breath entering and exiting; experiencing pleasure, one is also mindful of the breath entering and exiting. This joy increasing is called pleasure. Furthermore, delight arising in the initial mind is called joy; joy pervading the body later on is called pleasure. Furthermore, the pleasant feeling in the first dhyāna and second dhyāna is called joy; the pleasant feeling in the third dhyāna is called experiencing pleasure. Experiencing the mental activities, one is also mindful of the breath entering and exiting. The dharmas of the arising and ceasing of various minds—stained mind and unstained mind, scattered mind and collected mind, correct mind and incorrect mind—such marks of mind are called mental activities. When the mind generates joy, one is also mindful of the breath entering and exiting: whereas previously experienced joy arose naturally without deliberate mindfulness, here the mind deliberately generates joy."
