Furthermore, one contemplates the space element of the body. Constantly practicing this contemplation, the power of desire, the power of vīrya, the power of single-mindedness, and the power of wisdom become extremely vast and great, whereupon one is able to lift the body. Just as the power of a great wind can carry heavy things far away, this too is like that! At first, one should test oneself by rising one foot or two feet off the ground, gradually reaching ten feet, and then returning to one's original place. Just as a young bird learns to fly or a small child learns to walk, reflecting and examining oneself, one knows that mental strength is great and will surely be able to reach far. One trains in contemplating the four great elements: removing the earth element and contemplating only the [other] three elements, with one's mental focus undistracted, one then attains mastery, and the body meets no obstacle, flying like a bird. One should also train in perceiving what is far as near, and for this reason what is near disappears and what is far emerges.
