Among the disciples of the Bhagavat who train in and practice the five Dharma gates with the resolve of seeking nirvāṇa, there are two kinds of people: some are inclined toward more samādhi because of its bliss; some are inclined toward more wisdom because they dread suffering and distress. Those with more samādhi first learn the methods of dhyāna and later learn nirvāṇa. Those with more wisdom proceed directly to nirvāṇa. As for those who proceed directly to nirvāṇa: having not yet severed the kleśas and having not yet attained dhyāna, they concentrate their minds without distraction and directly seek nirvāṇa, transcending craving and all other kleśas; this is called nirvāṇa.
