At that time, after the Bhagavat had spoken this mantra, he said to Śāriputra: "Such a divine mantra was spoken by immeasurable past Buddhas, is spoken by me now in the present, and will also be proclaimed by the Bodhisattva Maitreya of the Bhadrakalpa in the future. The merit of such a divine mantra is like Maheśvara; it can cause bad monks during the latter five hundred years to attain a purified mind, to harmonize and properly cure the excess and deficiency of the four great elements, and also to cure the four hundred and four illnesses within the mind, the states arising from the four hundred and four channels, the seeds of the ninety-eight proclivities of sexual desire, and also cure karmic hindrances and the evil of breaking precepts, ending them forever without remainder. This is called the 'Dhāraṇī for Properly Curing the Seventy-Two Illnesses, Worries, and Afflictions', also called the 'Dhāraṇī for Pulling Out the Five Aggregates and the Root of Ignorance', and also called 'Seeing in Person All Buddhas and Śrāvakas Preaching the True Dharma to Destroy All Defilements'."
