“What is called contemplating the broad, flat, and even forehead, the mark of the broad, flat, and even forehead? There are lights of two wheels; the rims of the lights’ wheels, with hubs and rims of a thousand spokes, form maṇi jewels, in shape like a painting by the Viśvakarman deva. From within the painting flows out sublime golden-colored light, which comes and enters the white hair-tuft, circles the tuft seven times, ascends and enters into the pores on the forehead, and extends to the hairline among the various colored marks, meandering down to the ear-rims, and scattering upward into the hair, circling the hair seven times. Emerging from the occipital bone, it circles the preceding lotus mark, making seven round turns with seven distinct lines. The lines have seven colors, each color producing seven flowers, and each flower has a Buddha with seven bodhisattvas as attendants, reverently surrounding him and revolving to the right. Thus are the three marks of the broad, flat, and even forehead: the hairline mark, the mark of the pores on the head, and the mark within the brain. Within the brain there are also fourteen rays of light appearing within the channels, transparent both inside and outside, distinct and lovely, gushing forth white light interspersed with reddish-purple, whose color is subtle, emerging from the occipital bone and also circling the preceding [mark] three times. Between each line sits a Buddha, with two bodhisattvas as attendants, even more distinct and many times surpassing the previous ones.”
