9.35

阿難白佛言：「世尊！如來在世眾生現見，觀佛相好、觀佛光明，尚不了了，況佛滅後佛不現在，當云何觀？」

Ānanda said to the Buddha: "Bhagavat, when the Tathāgata is in the world, sentient beings see him directly, yet even when contemplating the Buddha's primary marks and secondary signs and contemplating the Buddha's illumination, they still do not see them clearly. How much more so after the Buddha's parinirvāṇa, when the Buddha is not present! How should they contemplate?"
